Philadelphia, PA - Freshman Alia Aziz advanced to the consolation finals of the Ramsay Division (women's A) at the CSA Individual Championships Saturday. Aziz won two matches Saturday en route to clinching a final's appearance.
Aziz defeated Penn's Tara Chawla 9-6, 10-9, 2-9, 9-1 in the semifinals to advance to the finals. Earlier in the day, Aziz cruised to a 9-1, 10-9, 9-1 victory over Williams's Ashley Eyre in the quarterfinals. Aziz will face Penn's Sydney Scott in the consolation finals Sunday at 10:30 a.m. ET.
Both senior Catherine McLeod and junior Miranda Ranieri fell in tough four game matches in the quarterfinals of the maindraw of the Ramsay Division. No. 3 seed McLeod, a favorite to win the tournament, fell to Princeton's Neha Kumar 9-3, 7-9, 10-8, 9-5. No. 8 seed Ranieri could not overcome No. 1 seed Kyla Grigg of Harvard as Grigg pulled out a 9-6, 9-4, 4-9, 9-3 victory.
Senior Lauren McCrery fell in the quarterfinals of the Ramsay Division Consolation to Chawla in three games.
