NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale women featured two teams at the United States Squash and Racquet Association's U.S. Team Championships this weekend at the Brady Squash Center. The highlight for the Bulldogs of the first two days of the competition was a 3-2 Yale win over Trinity on Saturday.
The 27-team tournament includes professional squads, college teams, and teams assembled from such cities as Hartford, Philadelphia, Greenwich, and New York. The two Yale teams each played two matches over the first two days, and one each against all-male squads. The Yale Women "B" squad of Sarah Barenbaum, Elisabeth Hill, Kaitlin Vinci, Katharine Ettinger and Katie Mandel competed on Friday against the all-male team NYC "C," losing 5-0. The "B" squad also fell to the Harvard women 5-0 on Saturday.
The Yale women "A" team fared better. After falling to the all-male Lake Forest team 4-1 on Friday, the Bulldog squad composed of Catherine McLeod, Lauren McCrery, Alia Aziz, Kate Rapisarda and Tara Wadhwa defeated Trinity 3-2 on Saturday. McLeod defeated Vaihedi Reddy 3-0 and Aziz downed Jo-Ann Jee 3-1 to lead the Bulldogs.
