NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Alia Aziz, a junior history major from New York, NY, will serve as the captain for the Yale women's squash team for the 2009-10 season. Aziz will take over for captain Tara Wadhwa, who led Yale to a fifth place finish in the Howe Cup.
Aziz will attempt to lead the Bulldogs to a National Championship for the first time since 2006. Aziz, Katharine Ettinger, and Kaitlin Vinci will compose the senior class for the Bulldogs for the next season. Aziz will lead a young team that currently starts three sophomores and three freshmen.
"I am really excited for Alia and the Yale Women's Squash Team that she will be captain for the 2009-10 season," head coach Dave Talbott said. "Along with fellow seniors Kaki Ettinger and Kaitlin Vinci, Alia will provide great leadership both on and off the court. Alia came through the junior ranks as a top player in all the age groups and is currently one of the top players in all of college squash. She is just as talented off the court and will be a very engaged and successful captain."
