NEW HAVEN, Conn. – This Saturday the Yale women's swimming and diving team will travel to Ithaca, N.Y., to square off against the Cornell Big Red. The Bulldogs are looking keep their dual season an undefeated one, citing wins over Columbia and most recently, an impressive finish over the University of Vermont.
After a short holiday break the Bulldogs returned to New Haven to resume training. With fall semester classes over, it has been a time to "just focus on swimming, rest and sharpen up our racing" said Robert J.H. Kiphuth Director of Swimming Cristina Teuscher.
Last year Yale hosted Cornell, also in hopes of remaining undefeated in dual meets. The Bulldogs won all but two events and posted top-three finishes in five events to take the Big Red 207-93. The victory elevated the Bulldogs' dual meet record to 4-0. In 2009 the result was similar. Yale out swam Cornell 206-94, making for one of Yale's biggest victories of the season. Combined with a 219-81 Bulldog victory in 2008, this weekend the senior class will be looking to bring home a win over Cornell for the fourth year in a row.
January will be a busy month for the Bulldogs. Starting this Saturday Yale will have a meet every weekend, culminating in the two-day "HYP" meet against Harvard and Princeton at home on Jan. 28-29. The Bulldogs will then race against Connecticut and Brown in February before heading to the Ivy League Championship on Feb. 24.
This weekend's meet will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning at Cornell's Teagle Hall Pool.
