NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A winning season is on the line this weekend as the Yale women's swimming and diving team takes on the Brown Bears for its last meet of the regular season. Yale came up short against Harvard and Princeton last weekend to bring its record to an even 3-3 in dual meets. The Bulldogs own wins over Cornell, Dartmouth and Penn but lost to Columbia in their season opener.
Though Yale had some tough losses last weekend, Brown will not be heading into this final dual matchup with any more momentum than Yale. The Bears lost to Cornell last weekend by a margin of 169-131. The Bears did squeeze out a win over BU on Jan. 28, but before that the Bears lost to Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn and Princeton.
This meet will be one of the last opportunities for the Bulldogs to qualify for the NCAA Championships next month. The team has yet to qualify any swimmers but two divers have already made the cut for the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. Junior Paige Meneses qualified on one meter against Cornell, while senior captain Rachel Rosenberg has hit the qualifying score on both one meter and three meter several times over, including last week in her double wins over Harvard and Princeton. Sophomore Megan Harada and freshman Lauren Gardanier have yet to meet the standards for zone qualification but they still have a chance this weekend and again in two weeks at the 2012 Ivy League Championships.
The meet will take place this Saturday, Feb. 11 at the University of Rhode Island's Tootell Aquatics Center in Kingston, R.I. Competition is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
