Ivy League Sports Press Release

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – It was announced on Wednesday of this week that junior Alexandra Forrester has qualified to compete at the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.

Forrester qualified for NCAA's in the 100-yard butterfly at the 2012 Ivy League Championships one week ago.  Her qualifying time came in the preliminaries when she posted a 52.51, more than two seconds faster than the NCAA B-cut of 54.62 and faster than her own meet record of 52.58 set at Ivy's two years ago.  Forrester would go on to win the final with a time of 52.53.

Forrester will return to NCAA's this year after a one-year hiatus, having qualified to race in two events at the 2010 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.  In the 200-yard butterfly she took 10th with a time of 1:55.32.  Her other event was the 100-yard butterfly, where she won the B final with a time of 52.35.

Forrester has performed exceptionally in the 100 fly at various meets this season, not the least of which was the 2011 AT&T Winter National Championships.  Racing in the long course meters format of the meet, Forrester finished second in the 100 fly with a time of 58.50 to qualify for this summer's U.S. Olympic Team Trials.  She also qualified for trials in the 50-meter freestyle and the 200-meter butterfly.

The 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships will take place March 15-17 in Auburn, Ala., at Auburn's Martin Aquatics Center.
