Despite a number of strong individual performances, the Yale women's swimming and diving team was defeated by the Brown Bears in Friday night's dual meet in Providence 169-131. The meet is Brown's fourth consecutive dual meet victory and only the third loss on the year for Yale, who now falls to 8-3. The Bulldogs have one meet remaining in the regular season before the Ivy League Championships.
Brown took an early lead, winning the first eight events, however the Bulldogs had a late comeback, led by a number of individual winners. Senior Melanie Loftus swept the diving by winning both the 1-meter and the 3-meter events. Captain Caroline Stephenson was also a multi-event winner, placing first in both the 200 Breaststroke and the 200 IM. Yale's other individual winners included Laura Aronsson (1000 Freestyle), Meg Gill (100 Butterfly), and Moira McCloskey (200 Backstroke).
The Bulldogs look to get their ninth win next week as they travel to Deleware. That meet will end the regular season and in the proceeding week, Yale will compete at the Ivy League Championships, being held this year at Princeton.
