Feb. 17, 2007
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After the second of three days of competition at the ECAC Championships, hosted at Harvard's Blodgett Pool, the Yale women's swimming and diving team sits in 10th place with 122 points. Marist is in the lead with 449.5 points.
The highlight of Yale's day at Blodgett Pool came with senior Ashley Kochanek's impressive performance in the 400 yard individual medley. Competing in her last meet for Yale, Kochanek won a tight race for second place with her time of 4:37.45, ahead of Penn's Lindsay Gottschalk and Harvard's Kelly Mooney. The Yale senior was behind both Ivy rivals after 300 yards, but her freestyle leg of 29.88 helped her jump from fourth to second.
Elsewhere, Nicole Swaney finished eighth in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.02. The Bulldogs also had success in the consolation final of the 100 yard breaststroke. Senior Tory Nelson won the consolation final in a time of 1:08.02. If Nelson had qualified for the championship final, her time would have been good for fifth place. Teammate Katie French finished two spots back in third in the consolation final with her time of 1:09.31.
Finally, in the 800 yard freestyle relay, the Kochanek, Nelson, French and Swaney combined for a fifth place finish with their time of 7:51.82.
