NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Holly Mazar has been elected captain of the Yale women's swimming team for the 2005-2006 season. Mazur, who hails from Whitby, Ontario, came to Yale from the Peddie School in Hightstown, N.J.
At Peddie, she was a high school All-American in the 100-yard breaststroke. Before coming to the U.S., Holly was nationally ranked in Canada in the 100m breaststroke (top 25) and the 200m breaststroke (top 50). She was also a Junior and Youth National consolation finalist as well as a Provincial Championship medalist in both breaststrokes.
As early as her sophomore year at Yale, Holly was a consolation finalist in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes at the Ivy League Championships. In her junior season at Ivies she had a time of 2.22.71 in the 200 breaststroke.
Mazar chose Yale for her college experience because of its strong academic and athletic reputation. She is an art history major and aspires to become an architect. She is a huge sports fan and enjoys supporting her favorite team: The Dallas Cowboys. In her spare time Holly enjoys shopping, traveling and dancing. The athlete she most admires is Canadian Olympian, Anne Ottenbrite. Holly has a younger brother Alex, who attends McGill University.
