Yale Completes Day One at Maryland Invite
Bulldogs Post 8-1 Record on First Day of Tournament
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Yale completed day one of the Maryland Invite with an 8-1 record Friday at the University of Maryland.
In doubles action, the doubles team of freshman Elizabeth Epstein and sophomore Stephanie Kent defeated the Maryland team of MacKeever and Miller 8-4. Junior Stevi Petrelli and freshman Jenna Ritz won 8-4 over George Washington University’s doubles team of Lysienia and Corba.
Yale rolled through its competition in the Flight ‘A’ Singles Draw. Petrelli won her first round match 6-1, 6-1. In the second round, Petrelli cruised to the 6-0, 6-0 victory.
In her collegiate debut, Epstein’s success mirrored Petrelli. After a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the first round, Epstein advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-1 second round victory.
While not a newcomer to collegiate tennis, Kent made her Yale debut by advancing to the quarterfinals as well.
Ritz dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision in the Flight ‘B’ Singles Draw.
