Epstein, Lederhandler, Kent Advance to Finals of Respective Draws
FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - Yale continued its success on the second day of the USTA Invite Sunday. Freshman Elizabeth Epstein, sophomore Stephanie Kent and senior Sarah Lederhandler advanced to the finals of their respective singles draws. Also, the doubles team of Lederhandler and senior Jessica Rhee advanced to the finals of their doubles draw.
In the 'B' singles draw, Epstein defeated Christina Ordaway in the quarterfinals in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. She then cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win in the semifinals over Olga Khmylev to advance to the finals.
Kent had similar success in the 'C' singles draw. A day after winning two matches, Kent rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Adi Petrova in the semifinals to advance to the finals.
In the 'F' singles draw, Lederhandler defeated opponent Melissa Schonfeld 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinals to advance to the finals.
In doubles play, Lederhandler and Rhee won two matches Sunday in the 'C' doubles draw to advance to the finals. In the quarterfinals, the duo won 8-4. The senior doubles team then rolled to an 8-2 victory in the semifinals.
