CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - No. 43 Yale (6-1) opened play at the 2010 ECAC Division I Women's Indoor Tennis Championship with a 6-1 victory over Boston University Friday morning at Harvard University. The Bulldogs swept the three doubles matches in the victory.
Playing No. 1 doubles, the duo of sophomore Vicky Brook and junior Lindsay Clark won 8-4 over Nunic and Laszloffy. At the No. 2 doubles slot, the doubles team of senior Jessica Rhee and sophomore Stephanie Kent pulled out an 8-7 (6) win over Whu and Micai. Junior Stevi Petrelli and senior captain Sarah Lederhandler won 8-6 over Santini and Linero at No. 3 doubles.
Yale won five of six singles matches on the day. At No. 2 singles, Brook rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Whu. Freshman Elizabeth Epstein cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Linero at No. 5 singles.
Yale needed three sets for its other three singles victories. At No. 4 singles, Petrelli won the clincher with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 win over Santini. Rhee defeated Laszloffy 5-7, 7-6 (4), 10-4 at No. 3 singles. Playing No. 6 singles, Clark pulled out a 6-4, 3-6, 1-1 (14-12 win over Micai.
The win over Boston University marked the second for Yale this season over this opponent. The No. 3 seeded Bulldogs will face the winner of the Harvard-Cornell match on Saturday.
