Bulldogs Open Strong at USTA Invitational

New Haven, Conn. – The Yale women's tennis team turned in a strong opening day at the USTA BJK NTC Women's College Invitational Saturday, winning six of seven matches.

In the A singles flight, sophomore Elizabeth Epstein defeated Liberty's Jordan Jenkins 7-6 (5),  7-5, 11-9, and freshman Blair Seideman blanked Lauren Bates of Binghamton 6-0, 6-0.  In C, freshman Kim Szokol defeated Army's Emily Stein, who withdrew due to injury.  In D, freshman Annie Sullivan beat Fairfield's Sharissa Ryan 6-4, 6-2.  In F, senior Silia DeFilippis lost to South Carolina's Ashley Miller 7-5, 5-7, 10-8. 

In A doubles, Seideman and Epstein beat St. John's Ece Firat and Jenny Yonkus 8-0, while in B doubles Sullivan and Szokol teamed up to top Kelly Comolli and Sarah O'Neil of Cornell 8-5. 

Tournament play will continue Sunday at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
