Sullivan and Szokol Advance to Finals at USTA Invitational
New Haven, Conn. – The doubles team of Annie Sullivan and Kim Szokol are the last Bulldogs standing after moving day at the USTA BJK NTC Women's College Invitational Sunday in Flushing, N.Y., Sunday, where the rest of the Yale competitors were eliminated.
Freshmen Sullivan and Szokol advanced to the finals of the B doubles draw by defeating North Carolina State's Joelle Kissell and Ashley Miller 8-6 in semifinal play. The Bulldogs tandem will play the top-seeded duo of Alex Kelleher and Erina Kikuchi from Boston College in Monday's final.
In A singles play, sophomore Elizabeth Epstein won her quarterfinal match against Rutger's Amy Zhang 0-6, 6-2, 10-6, before falling to Anna Edelman of Binghamton in the semifinals 7-5, 7-5. Blaire Seideman fell in the quarterfinals to Brown's Bianca Aboubakare 6-4, 6-7 (9), 10-6.
In C singles, Szokol fell to Darmouth's Ryan Reichel 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 in semifinal action.
In the semifinals of D singles, Sullivan lost to Brown's Cate Stewart 7-6 (3), 6-3.
