No. 47 Yale Falls to No. 4 Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The No. 47 Yale women lost 7-0 against No. 4 Notre Dame this Saturday in the ITA Division I Kick Off Weekend, which takes place in 15 different sites nationwide. The team that wins both matches at each site will receive a bid to the Feb. 18-21 ITA National Team Indoor Championship at the Boar's Head Sports Club hosted by the University of Virginia.

At No. 1 singles, junior Vicky Brook lost to No. 9 Kristy Frilling (6-1, 6-2). No. 65 Elizabeth Epstein took on No. 104 Shannon Mathews, falling in a tie breaker in the second set (6-0, 7-6). At No. 3, Notre Dame's No. 79 Kristen Rafael defeated freshman Blair Seideman (6-1, 7-5). Freshman Annie Sullivan lost to No. 78 Chrissie McGaffin (6-2, 6-2) at No. 4 singles. Junior Stevie Petrelli withdrew against No. 106 Jennifer Kellner (6-1, 2-6, 0-1). The last match to finish paired freshman Kim Szokol against Julie Sabacinski at the No. 6 position; Sabacinski won in two sets (7-6, 6-3).

Bulldog duo Kent and Sullivan won at No. 2 doubles by an 8-7 score.

Yale will play a consolation match on Sunday against No. 41 Utah, who lost to No. 23 Arkansas on Saturday.
