NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The No. 40 Yale women's tennis team improved to 5-2 for the spring season with a 7-0 win over East Tennessee State at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center Sunday afternoon. The Yale women pulled off five two set victories in the singles matches, and captured two out of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
The Bulldogs were led by junior Victoria Brook who dropped only two games in her match at No. 1 against Kelly Holtzhausen. At No. 2, sophomore Elizabeth Epstein impressed in similar fashion, defeating Paula Jaime 6-1, 6-1 as well. Freshman Blair Seideman won her match in a tie breaker, overcoming a deficit in the first set to secure the win for the Bulldogs (4-6, 7-6(4), 10-5). Senior Stevi Petrelli defeated East Tennessee's Karina Kedzo at No.4 by a 6-4, 6-2 record. Freshman Annie Sullivan won a perfect first set, and gave up only four games in the second set for the win at No. 5. Freshman Kim Szokol rounded out the wins for the Bulldogs at No. 6 over Andra Voinea (6-4, 6-1).
The Bulldogs also captured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. At No. 1, Brook and senior Lindsay Clark defeated Paula Jaime and Karina Kedzo 9-7. At No. 3, Epstein and senior Silia de Filippis won 8-3.
