ATLANTA, Ga. – Friday, the Bulldogs started off the Yellowjacket Invitational with a 4-2 loss in singles to Georgia and a 3-0 loss in doubles to Georgia Tech.  Although the score didn't reflect it, Yale played very competitive tennis, and the two victories in singles came from the freshmen on the team, with both getting their first victories as Yale Bulldogs.

Yale played Georgia in singles, and got victories at No. 5 with freshman Hanna Yu and at No. 6 with freshman Amber Li, as both won in two sets.  At No. 1, junior Elizabeth Epstein lost to Maho Kowase, the No. 56 ranked player nationally.  At No. 2, sophomore Blair Seideman was winning at both 5-4 and 6-5 in the first set, but Georgia's Lilly Kimbell, ranked No. 123, ended up pulling out the set and the victory.  At No. 3 senior captain Steph Kent fell in two sets, and sophomore Annie Sullivan, playing at No. 4, lost after Georgia's Lauren Herring came back from a 5-2 deficit in the second set.

In doubles, Kent and Sullivan took on the No. 6 ranked team nationally.  After falling behind 4-0 early, the Bulldog duo was able to tighten the score up to 4-3 before ultimately losing 8-4.

Said Coach Christian Thompson, "I was proud they fought back".

At the other doubles spots Epstein and Yu lost 8-5 and Seideman and Li fell 8-2 at No. 3.  Coach Thompson warned that the team "will be changing up lineups quite a bit to get things figured out" as the season goes on and the coaches get a chance to see which teams play the best together, so these early results don't say much about what the team will look like once the regular season begins.

On Saturday Yale will take on Oklahoma State in doubles from 2-3:30 pm and Georgia Tech from 3:30-6 in singles.
