NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Starting Friday, Yale will welcome the USTA/ITA Division I Women's Northeast Regional Championship to campus. The tournament will feature players from 35 schools, playing both doubles and singles individually.
From Yale, seven of the team's eight players will participate. In singles, senior Vicky Brook, junior Elizabeth Epstein, sophomores Blair Seideman and Annie Sullivan, and freshmen Amber Li and Hanna Yu will represent the Bulldogs. The tournament features a qualifying round as well as the main draw. No Yale players are among the 32 qualifiers that will have to win two matches in a play-in draw to get to the main event.
In doubles, three Yale pairs were selected for the tournament. Brook and Yu will play together, as will Sullivan and Li. Finally, senior captain Steph Kent will join Seideman in the third pair. All three pairs played together two weekends ago in the USTA Invitational, each finishing with a 2-1 record.
The players are competing for a chance to advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in November.
The competition for the Bulldogs will include every team in the Ivy League, as well as local teams like Army, Quinnipiac and Rutgers.
All information on the tournament can be found here.
