NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Friday, the Yale women's tennis team went undefeated in the first two rounds of the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships doubles section.
Senior Vicky Brook and freshman Hanna Yu, playing together as the tournament's sixth seed, knocked off a pair from Penn in the first round 8-1, then won their second match 8-4 against a Seton Hall team.
Sophomore Annie Sullivan and freshman Amber Li, the tournament's ninth seeded team, also won their first match 8-1, against a squad from Long Island University, and then stepped up to win 8-6 against the Rutgers team of Morgan Ivey and Stefania Balasa.
Finally, senior captain Steph Kent and sophomore Blair Seideman also won their two matches. In the first round they won 8-2 over a pairing from Fairleigh Dickinson, and in the second they knocked off Columbia's No. 3 seeded pairing of Nicole Bartnik and Crystal Leung 8-1. Bartnik, a junior, played in the No. 1 singles spot for Columbia last season.
Fans in New Haven can watch the tournament in person at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center as the action continues tomorrow.
