NEW HAVEN, Conn. – This weekend, the No. 25 Yale women's tennis team will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for competition against two Central Region opponents.
Yale will challenge No. 31 Oklahoma, which started the season ranked No. 25, on Saturday. The Sooners have the nation's No. 22 ranked doubles pair in Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Richie. The pair is also ranked No. 1 in the Central Region. Oklahoma is 4-2 on the season, including a 5-2 loss to No. 20 Tulsa. When Yale matched up with Tulsa, the teams split the singles points and the Bulldogs took two of the top three doubles spots.
Yale currently boasts three ranked doubles pairs in the No. 16 combo of freshman Hanna Yu and senior Vicky Brook, No. 39 ranked sophomore Blair Seideman and senior captain Steph Kent, and No. 59 freshman Amber Li and sophomore Annie Sullivan. Yale also dominates the Northeast Region singles rankings. Junior Elizabeth Epstein is ranked No. 2, and Yu is right behind her at No. 3. Brook is No. 7 and Seideman is No. 13.
Yale will stay in Fayetteville Sunday to play No. 32 Arkansas. The Razorbacks are 5-4, and have played two teams that the Bulldogs have also gone up against in No. 10 Michigan and No. 13 Georgia Tech. Both Yale and Arkansas were swept by Georgia Tech, but Yale almost beat the Wolverines before falling 4-3 while Arkansas was swept in both singles and doubles.
Yale had last weekend off after coming just one point shy of advancing in the ITA Kickoff Weekend at Michigan the week before. The Bulldogs upset then-No. 21 Notre Dame 4-3 in the first round. That victory was highlighted by a win at No. 1 singles from Epstein over All-American Kristy Frilling, the two-time Big East Player of the Year who was ranked No. 7 in the country at the end of last season. A 4-3 loss to Michigan in the next round ended Yale's run, but Kent -- who went undefeated in both singles and doubles for the weekend, winning the clinching match vs. Notre Dame -- earned national recognition as one of CollegeSports360's "Primetime Performers of the Week".
Live stats will be available for the Arkansas match here.
