HANOVER, N.H. – Friday, the Yale women's tennis team won seven matches each in singles and doubles without dropping a single match at the Dartmouth Big Green Invitational.
First up for the Yale women was doubles against Boston University. At No. 1, junior Annie Sullivan combined with freshman Ree Ree Li to win 8-4 over Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis and Madison Craft. In the second spot, senior captain Elizabeth Epstein and sophomore Hanna Yu knocked off the pairing of Lauren Davis and Sami Lieb by a score of 8-5. Finally, senior Sarah Guzick and freshman Madeleine Hamilton won 8-2 against Kendal Drake and Kim McCallum to cap off the sweep.
Next for the Bulldogs was singles, again against BU. In the first real look at the team playing in the usual spring-season format, Hamilton was at No. 1 against Athanasiadis. The match was all Hamilton all the way as the freshman took the first set 6-0 and the second 6-1. In the No. 2 spot, Seideman took on Davis, taking the match 6-0, 6-3. At No. 3, Epstein continued the streak of Bulldog dominance, winning 6-0, 6-0 against Lieb. At No. 4, Yu had one of the tougher matches of the day, but still won with breathing room, 6-2, 6-3 over Craft. In the fifth spot, Sullivan won 6-0, 6-1, to match Hamilton's margin of victory and at No. 6 Li earned the same score in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sophie Wyman. In the No. 7 spot, Guzick took on McCallum, eventually winning a tight 7-5 set.
Finally, the team went up against the University of Massachusetts in doubles, taking all four matches played. The lineup was almost the same as against BU, with Li and Sullivan playing at No. 1. In this match, they took on Yuliana Motyl and Chantal Swiszcz, earning an identical 8-4 win. In the second spot, sophomore Amber Li and Yu played the closest Yale match of the day, against Sonia Bokhari and Chanel Glasper. The Bulldog duo went ahead 5-2, but allowed the UMass pair back into the game at 5-4. The match stayed close from there, with both teams staying on serve until 8-7, when Epstein and Yu earned a huge break to win the match. In the third spot, Guzick and Hamilton snagged an 8-4 victory over Arielle Griffin and Jessica Podlofsky. Finally, playing in a bonus doubles match, freshman Courtney Amos teamed up with Seideman to snag an 8-1 win over Jocelyn Providence and Gianna Francis.
Saturday, the Bulldogs will go up against the Dartmouth Big Green, hosts of the tournament. Last season the Big Green finished 2-5 in the Ivy League, while the Bulldogs went 7-0 to advance into the NCAA Tournament.
