Guzick Wins at No. 6
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Friday afternoon the No. 35-ranked Yale women's tennis team extended its home winning streak to 33 with a 5-2 victory over Dartmouth. The Bulldogs move to 5-0 in the Ivy League and 15-2 overall.
Friday's match was Senior Day and the last home match of the 2013 regular season. Seniors Elizabeth Epstein (the team's captain) and Sarah Guzick both saw success on the court; Epstein, paired with sophomore Hanna Yu, won her doubles match at No. 2, while Guzick earned a victory at No. 6 singles.
Yale's victory was also aided by strong play from the freshman class. Freshman Madeleine Hamilton came back after dropping her first set against Akiko Okuda to earn the Bulldogs a win at No. 2 singles. Hamilton is 6-0 since ceding the the top singles spot to Epstein. At doubles, classmate Courtney Amos joined with sophomore Amber Li for the first time this season and helped the Bulldogs claim the doubles point with a win at No. 3.
Back at singles, junior Annie Sullivan had one of the day's most impressive performances, preserving her perfect record this season and defeating her opponent Melissa Matusuoka 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3.
The Bulldogs will travel to Harvard Sunday for their second-to-last match of the regular season. With a win, they would clinch the Ivy title for the third straight year. Sunday's match is scheduled for 2 p.m.
