  • For Seventh Consecutive Year, Bulldogs Post High Marks off the Court

    The Yale women's tennis team received the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team Award for the seventh straight season this week, showing that its players excel off the court as well. Additionally, four individual members of the squad were honored as ITA Scholar-Athletes for the 2013-14 season.

    At an end-of-season banquet last week, the Yale women’s tennis team honored two players with awards for their achievements in the 2013-14 year. Freshman Caroline Lynch (Dublin, Ireland) received the team’s Special Contribution Award, while junior Hanna Yu (Northbrook, Ill.) was named Most Improved and won the Lisa Rosenblum Award for most valuable player.
  • Danielle McNamara Steps Down

    Danielle McNamara announced Tuesday that she is stepping down as Yale’s Swensen-McMahon Head Coach of Women’s Tennis. McNamara led Yale to four Ivy League Championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and four ECAC Indoor Team Championships in her eight seasons as the Bulldogs’ head coach. Her overall record at Yale was 124-49, and the team was 48-8 in Ivy League matches.

    The Yale women's tennis team capped its spring break trip out West on a high note on Friday with a resounding 6-1 win over No. 64 Brigham Young (4-5, 1-0 WCC). Playing at the Whiteman Tennis Center, No. 50 Yale (5-6, 0-0 Ivy) performed at a high level in singles play after narrowly dropping the doubles point. Of the Bulldogs' six singles victories, four were decided in a third set.

Playing Thursday at the Whiteman Tennis Center, the home venue of No. 28 Arizona State (12-2, 1-0 Pac Sun), No. 50 Yale (4-6, 0-0 Ivy) managed to post three wins in singles, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit against the home squad after having lost the doubles point.

The Bulldogs' destination will be the Whiteman Tennis Center, home of the Arizona State Sun Devils. At this venue, No. 50 Yale (4-5, 0-0 Ivy) will attempt to record its first win on the road this season when the squad takes on No. 28 Arizona State (11-2, 1-0 Pac Sun) on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. MST (4:30 p.m. EDT). Less than 24 hours after that encounter, the Bulldogs will return to the Whiteman Tennis Center for a match against No. 64 Brigham Young (4-4, 1-0 WCC) at 12:00 p.m. MST (3:00 p.m. EDT).

    In the first of three spring break matches out West, the Yale women's tennis team took on No. 24 Texas on Sunday. Playing at the Longhorns' Penick-Allison Tennis Center, the Bulldogs got off to an auspicious start in doubles before Texas took control in singles. The Longhorns notched five singles victories to record the 5-2 win and deny the Bulldogs a blazing start to their spring break campaign.
