MONTGOMERY, Ala. —Sunday at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic the Yale women's tennis team (4-4, 0-0 Ivy) defeated No. 75 Tulane 4-2 to earn their first win of the prestigious tournament.
Senior captain Annie Sullivan played a pivotal role for the Bulldogs Sunday, powering to a 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 2 and clinching the win for her team. This was Sullivan's second win of the tournament, having defeated Illinois's Melissa Kopinski on Saturday. Her Friday match against Texas Tech went unfinished.
Also helping to put the Bulldogs over the Green Wave were freshman Sherry Li, junior Hanna Yu and sophomore Courtney Amos, playing at Nos. 4, 5 and 6, respectively. Amos and Yu gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead at singles, as their matches each finished in two quick sets.
This was the Bulldogs' second consecutive appearance in the Blue Gray Classic, having reached the second round last year with a first-round win over Pepperdine. This year's title went to the host team, No. 14 Alabama.
