NEW HAVEN, Conn. —The No. 53-ranked Yale women's tennis team capped off a perfect weekend Sunday afternoon with a 7-0 sweep of St. John's (N.Y.) at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. The Bulldogs are 7-6 on the season.
As in Friday's match against Bryant, Yale got the job done with an unconventional lineup. Sophomore Madeleine Hamilton and senior captain Annie Sullivan, who typically play Nos. 1 and 2 singles but were absent from the lineup Friday, returned to play Sunday but saw their roles diminished. Sullivan played No. 3 singles, defeating Anna Morozova 6-2, 6-1, while Hamilton's sole court time came at No. 3 doubles, where she and freshman Caroline Lynch swept their opponents 8-0.
At the top of the lineup, it was sophomore Ree Ree Li and junior Hanna Yu who earned their second straight wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Lynch, who played No. 6 singles Friday, moved up to No. 5 for Sunday's match, where she confidently played to a two-set win.
The Bulldogs are on a three-match winning streak and will close out March with a trip to Willamsburg, Va., next weekend. They'll face William and Mary and No. 23 Rice in preparation for their Ivy League opener on Apr. 4.
