Yu Named First Team All-Ivy

PRINCETON, N.J. —Wednesday the Ivy League announced its 2014 All-Ivy Women's Tennis awards, naming four Yale women's tennis players for their accomplishments this season. At singles, junior Hanna Yu (Northbrook, Ill.) was named first team All-Ivy, while senior captain Annie Sullivan (Deerfield, Ill.) earned second team recognition. Sophomore Madeleine Hamilton (Greensboro, N.C.) and freshman Sherry Li (Parkland, Fla.) were also named second team All-Ivy for their play at doubles.

Transitioning into the top singles position midway through the season, Yu played five of seven matches at No. 1, where she went on a four-match winning streak and amassed an overall record of 4-1. Her win at No. 2 singles against Kana Daniel on Apr. 5 was crucial in the Bulldogs' 4-3 victory over Penn, while her upset over then-No. 80 Kanika Vaidya on Apr. 13 helped Yale defeat the Ivy League's top-ranked team at the time, Columbia. This is Yu's first All-Ivy award.

Sullivan was a mainstay for the Bulldogs at No. 3 singles, where she was undefeated in six matches. One of the Bulldogs' most consistent players over the past four seasons, her second team All-Ivy award was her second in a row at singles. She has earned second-team All-Ivy recognition at doubles in all three of her previous seasons for the Bulldogs.

Hamilton and Li played five Ivy League matches together at No. 1 doubles, compiling a 2-3 record. Against Cornell on Apr. 12, Hamilton and Li defeated Marika Cusick and Alexandra D'Ascenzo 8-6 to help the Bulldogs win the doubles point in a 6-1 victory. Hamilton was last season's Ivy League Rookie of the Year.

Princeton's Lindsay Graff won this year's Player of the Year Award, while Dayna Lord of Brown was this year's Rookie of the Year. Yale finished second in the Ivy League behind Princeton.
