NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The 3-0 Yale women's tennis team heads to the Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton, N.J., this weekend to participate in the ECAC Division I Indoor Championship. This kicks off a stretch of four consecutive weekends with matchplay for the Bulldogs, who were not in action this past weekend.
Yale's hot start has been the result of an outstanding overall team effort. The Bulldogs have combined for 18 singles and doubles victories over the three matches, taking down Fairfield, Quinnipiac and BU in the process.
Samantha Martinelli, Valerie Shklover, Sunday Swett and Amy Yang have each yet to drop a set in singles and will look to carry that into the weekend. Walk-on first year Sarah Cameron has thrived in her first few weeks as a Bulldog, showing that she will be a force to be reckoned with for the next few years.
Martinelli, a first year, made an appearance on the first Oracle/ITA Division I Women's National Singles Rankings of 2018, slotting in at No. 103. She was the only Bulldog to make the list and one of only three Ivy League players ranked.
The ECAC Division 1 Indoor Championship spans three days with eight teams competing in a single-elimination bracket. Dartmouth is the reigning champion. For the Bulldogs, the ball drops at 2:00 PM on Friday against Cornell. The full first-day schedule is listed below.
