NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale women's tennis team is ready to spring into action for its last match before spring break when the Bulldogs host Rutgers, who is 4-3 on the season. The match is at 12:00 p.m. Saturday and is scheduled to be streamed on the Ivy League Network.
The Scarlet Knights come into this matchup having lost three consecutive matches, including losses to Yale's Ivy League rivals No. 25 Princeton and Cornell. Before that, they had won four straight to start the season. They are led by senior Mingxiu Du, who has played in the No.1 spot for all of Rutgers' singles and doubles matches, with an impressive record of 4-2 in those doubles matches. Their head coach is Hilary Ritchie, who is in her second year in Brunswick. This matchup marks the first time that the two teams have met since 2012, when the Bulldogs won 6-1.
The Bulldogs come into this matchup looking to gain significant momentum going into the final weeks of non-conference play. They had an encouraging weekend at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala., where they challenged No. 5 Illinois with several close matches and beat UAB 4-0. They are hoping that this weekend's showdown with Rutgers will be a continuation of their play from this past weekend.
