NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Yale women's tennis team wrapped up their non-conference schedule with an impressive showing against Stony Brook, winning 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Doubles started off with the two teams exchanging 6-1 victories; Samantha Martinelli and Elizabeth Zordaniwho have emerged as Yale's No. 1 doubles pairing over the course of the past few weeks, won their match handly while Lauren Gillinov and Sunday Swett were unable to win in the No. 3 spot. That left the fate of the doubles point in the hands of Valerie Skhlover and Amy Yang, who ultimately pulled away to win 6-3 and put Yale up 1-0.

The Bulldogs won 5 of the 6 singles matches to win 6-1, but almost all of the matches were tight and could have gone either way. Yang was the outlier as she dominated, dropping one total game on her way to a straight-sets victory. Caroline Amos and Zordani won by identical 6-4, 6-4 scores, holding off their opponents in single-break fashion. Skhlover's match was even closer, winning both her sets with some late magic, 6-4, 7-5. Gillinov won in three sets for the second straight day, winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, to push her singles record on the spring season to a sparkling 2-0. The only blemish on Yale's afternoon was Martinelli's hard-fought three-set loss to Stony Brook senior Elizabeth Tsvetkov. After taking the first set 6-4, the first year found herself on the losing end of two tight sets, one of which went to a tiebreak. Despite the score, she showed tenacity and endurance against a more experienced opponent and will have plenty of positives to draw going forward.

This win could not have come at a better time for the Bulldogs, as it provides them with confidence and momentum going into Ivy League play. Yale awaits Brown, who will visit New Haven on Saturday the 31st at 1:00 p.m.
