NEW HAVEN, Conn. - After the season's conclusion, the Yale women's tennis team keeps winning off the court. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the ITA Division III Regional Award winners for the 2017-2018 season earlier on Monday, and both Senior Sunday Swett and first-year Samantha Martinelli were recognized by for their achievements.
Swett, in her final season with the team, won the ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award for the Northeast Region. Swett captained the Bulldogs and won her third Special Contribution Award, proving to be the leader for this team both on the court and off it. She's been recognized three times for being "a special person who has contributed much more than tennis and whose presence was vital to the spirit of the women's tennis team", and is now being acknowledged by the larger tennis community for that hard work.
Meanwhile, Martinelli, who is at the opposite end of her Yale career, continues to rack up the accolades after her first season with the team. She was awarded ITA Rookie of the Year for the Northeast Region, a follow up on her Ivy League Rookie of the Year win. She was also named to the Ivy League first team in both singles and doubles, as well as winning the Lisa Rosenblum '75 Most Valuable Player Award. Martinelli has had a flying start to her time here at Yale and will look to build on that success going forward.
