NEW HAVEN, Conn. - In their last match before opening Ivy League play next week, the Yale women's tennis team handily defeated UMass-Amherst today in New Haven, Conn. The Bulldogs took two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches to down the Minutewomen.
Yale jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the match, as the No. 2 doubles team of Christine Alford and Ashley Miles thrashed Jana Bartoloni and Susan Johnson 8-2, and No. 3 Lindsey Dashiell and Janet Kim beat Doroty Iwanowicz and Kristin DiPiero, 8-4.
Yale took care of the Minutewomen in singles as well, as all four of the Bulldog wins came in straight sets. No. 3 Janet Kim beat Johnson 6-2, 6-0, No. 4 Miles downed Iwanowicz 6-1, 6-0, No. 5 Alford handled Bartoloni 6-2, 6-3 and No. 6 Lilian Nguyen nipped Stephanie Gimenez 7-6(4), 6-3.
The Bulldogs next take to the courts on Fri., Apr. 7, when they play Penn at home.
