COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Yale women's tennis team had a successful opening day at the University of Maryland's Maryland Invite on Friday, winning two of three doubles matches and three of five singles matches. Janet Kim continued her hot play, teaming up with Lindsey Dashiell for an 8-3 win in "B" Flight doubles and thrashing her opponent 6-0, 6-3 in "A" flight singles.

Lilian Nguyen teamed up with Sarah Lederhandler for an 8-4 win to close out the Bulldogs' Friday victories in doubles. Nguyen also picked up a 7-6, 6-3 win in her singles match, with Christine Alford rounding out the singles wins with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win.

"I was happy with the way we competed," Head Coach Danielle Lund said. "Janet's continuing to play really well."

Lund also noted that with teams from such conferences as the ACC, SEC, Big 10 and Big East, the tournament is a great opportunity, especially for the younger players.

"We were able to take something from every match today, win or lose," she said. "It's good for them to see this level of competition, to see what's out there."

The Bulldogs will be back in action tomorrow, with the tournament concluding on Sunday.
