Norfolk, VA - Freshmen Lindsay Clark and Lauren Ritz advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Women's East Regional in Norfolk Virginia before falling Monday to the No. 1 seed Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zoricic of William & Mary 8-5.
Seeded No. 8 in the tournament, Clark and Ritz defeated Lulia Doci and Dasha Toor of NJIT 8-0 in the first round. Clark and Ritz then pulled out an 8-6 victory over Yulia Rivelis and Charlie Tansill of Penn in the round of 32. In the round of 16, Clark and Ritz came away with an 8-6 victory over Thaddea Lock and Isabell Reich of Marshall.
In singles action, junior Janet Kim, seeded No. 10 in the tournament, managed to advance to the round of 16 before losing in three sets to the No. 8 seed Lana Krasnopolsky of Boston College Monday 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Kim defeated Denise Harijanto of Buffalo in the round of 64 6-4, 6-2. In the round of 32, Kim handed Sarah Mayer of Siena a 6-3, 6-1 loss.
Clark defeated Thaddea Lock of Marshall 6-1, 6-2 before having to retire in the third set to No. 24 seed Bianca Aboubakare of Brown because of injury. Sophomore Sarah Lederhandler defeated Tanisa Varela of Bucknell before losing in the next round to No. 7 seed Melissa Saiontz of Princeton 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Stevi Petrelli fell in the first round in the three sets to Barbara Costa of Old Dominion. After managing to qualify for the main draw, Jessica Rhee also fell first round to Ashlee Vosters of Richmond 6-3, 6-2.
In other doubles action, Lederhandler and Rhee won their first round matchup over Harvard's Samantha Rosekrans and Catriona Stewart before falling in the round of 32 to No. 7 seed Barbara Costa and Charleen Haarhoff of Old Dominion.
