May 1, 2008

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior Janet Kim (Palisades Park, N.J.), who helped Yale to an NCAA tournament berth and its first Ivy League title since 1989, was named Ivy League Player of the Year Thursday. The first Yale player to earn the award, Kim was 6-1 in league matches at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Jessica Rhee (Dayton, Ohio), freshman Lindsay Clark (Bernardsville, N.J.) and freshman Lauren Ritz (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) also received Ivy League honors.

For the third straight year, Kim was recognized with a first team All-Ivy singles selection. The selection was unanimous for Kim, who posted a 13-6 record. After dropping her Ivy League opening match, she finished her Ivy season with six straight victories.

Kim also was named first team All-Ivy doubles with doubles partner Rhee after the duo posted a 6-1 Ivy League record at primarily the No. 1 doubles slot.

Rhee was also named second team All-Ivy singles after finishing the season with a 5-2 record in the Ivy League at No. 2 singles. Clark, who went 5-2 in the Ivy League at No. 3 singles, earned second team All-Ivy honors as well.

Clark and Ritz were named second team All-Ivy doubles. The duo finished the season with a 6-1 Ivy League record, including a perfect 6-0 record at No. 2 doubles.

Yale plays at No. 2 seed Georgia in the first round of the NCAA tournament Friday, May 9, at 4:00 p.m.
