Grace and Lovelace to Compete at NCAA Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The 2010 NCAA Championships begin June 9 and continue until June 12 in Eugene, Ore., hosted by the University of Oregon. Junior Kate Grace will be competing in the 800-meter run and sophomore Anne Lovelace will be competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

This will be Grace's third time competing at the NCAA Championships. Grace set a new school record on May 28 during the NCAA East Regionals in Greensboro, N.C., with a time of 2:04.22. The rankings are based on times prior to regionals, and so Grace is ranked 19th with her previous season best of 2:05.65. The fastest time listed is 2:01.40, set by LaTavia Thomas of LSU. She is seeded sixth among the competitors in the semifinals.

Grace will compete in the semifinals at 4:45 PM PDT on Wednesday. She is one of 24 runners competing in three heats; the top two from each heat plus the next two best times qualify for the finals. The finals will be held on Friday at 5:50 PM PDT.

Lovelace is competing in the NCAA Championships for the first time. She placed 13th in the steeplechase at NCAA Regionals with a time of 10:32.92. Her PR is 10:27.60, which she set at ECACs to earn All-East honors.

Lovelace will compete in the semifinals at 6:15 PM PDT on Thursday. The 24 runners will be competing in two heats; the top six from each heat and the next best two times will advance to the finals. The finals will be held on Saturday at 10:54 AM PDT.
