Ivy Matchup This Weekend
Bulldogs Head to Penn, Take On Princeton
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – On Saturday, the Bulldogs will travel down to Philadelphia to take on Princeton and host school Penn in the annual tri-meet. This is the same track that several Bulldogs will compete on at the Penn Relays later this month. Yale has won two of the past seven meetings between the three schools, most recently in 2006. The small size of the meet will allow Yale to show off its depth.
The Bulldogs are fresh off a strong showing at Princeton's Sam Howell Invitational last weekend where they claimed three wins, two from sophomore Nihal Kayali on consecutive days. Kayali ran away with both the 1,500-meter run and the 3,000-meter run titles, after making her lifetime debut in the latter event.
If last weekend's performances are any indication, the team will surely be competitive with Princeton, the indoor Heps champion. Several Bulldogs bested Tigers in their events and many more were right behind. The 4x100-meter relay team was right on Princeton's heels, finishing in 48.66 to the Tigers' 48.25, as was the 4x400-meter relay team (3:56.96 to 3:55.28). Kayali outpaced Greta Feldman of Princeton in Friday's edition of the 1,500-meter run before going on to beat Alexis Mikaelian by over 20 seconds in the 3,000-meter run on Saturday. Mikaelian was first in the mile at indoor Heps this year while Kayali finished third. Freshman Emily Urciuoli tied with Princeton's Samantha Anderson for sixth place in the pole vault.
The Bulldogs have not yet competed against Penn this season.
