Women’s Track to Compete at Sam Howell Invite
Bulldogs Will Travel to Princeton
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's track and field team will voyage to Princeton to participate in one of the largest meets of the season, the Sam Howell Invitational. So far, more than 950 athletes from more than 40 schools are registered to participate over the course of the weekend. The Bulldogs will bring a full team contingent to participate in almost 20 events across two days.
The meet will get underway with the more competitive Friday Night Races. Three Bulldogs will compete in the races on Friday: sophomore Sarah Barry in the 1,500-meter run, senior Anne Lovelace in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and junior Jennifer Donnelly in the 10,000-meter run. Additionally, junior Antonia Renker will compete in the discus throw.
On Saturday, Yale will be well-represented in all types of events. Seniors Marieme Mbaye, Alexa Monti and Emily Shulan will compete in the 100-meter dash, and junior Adele Jackson-Gibson will join them when they return in the 200-meter dash. Sophomore Jenna Hessert and junior Allison Rue will compete in the 400-meter dash, while senior captain Gabriella Kelly will be the lone Bulldog racing in the 800-meter run.
In the middle distance events, freshmen Anna Demaree and Alyssa LaGuardia will compete in the 1,500-meter run and freshman Hannah Alpert and sophomore Rachel O'Driscoll will challenge in the 3,000-meter run.
Yale will field four hurdlers on Saturday: freshman Ashleigh Delemos and sophomore Amanda Snajder will compete in the 100-meter hurdles and freshman Emily Cable, junior Dakota McCoy and junior Jenna Poggi will race in the 400-meter hurdles.
The Bulldog pole vaulting duo of freshman Catherine Shih and sophomore Emily Urciuoli will take to the air on Saturday, as will freshman Elle Brunsdale, Jackson-Gibson, freshman Teresa Parent and Snajder in the long jump. Additionally, Brunsdale, freshman Alisha Jordan and Parent will compete in the triple jump. Renker will return to participate in the hammer throw as Yale's lone thrower of the meet.
Finally, Cable, Jackson-Gibson, Monti and Shulan will participate in the 4x100-meter relay and Cable, Kelly, Poggi and Rue will combine in the 4x400-meter relay.
Friday's events will kick off with the hammer throw at 4:00 p.m. and continue until the women's 10,000-meter run at 10:30 p.m. Events on Saturday will get underway beginning at 11:00 a.m. with the last race scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The meet schedule is available here.
