Track Team to Take on Harvard

Historic Meet a Highlight of the Season for Bulldogs

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The members of the Yale women's track and field team will lace up their shoes to toe the line against Harvard in Boston this weekend. The special rivalry between the two schools makes this meet one of the more anticipated of the season for many on the team, and the Bulldogs plan to bring their A-game on Saturday.

"The history behind the Harvard-Yale rivalry elicits a unique energy and gets us all especially fired up to wear the 'Y' across our chests. Hopefully this fire will translate into some memorable performances this weekend," said junior Nihal Kayali.

Yale will try to use its depth in the middle distance events to pick up as many points as possible. Each team has athletes under 2:12 in the 800-meter run, but Yale has faster times and more depth in the 1,500-meter run so far this season. Sophomore Sarah Barry, junior Annelies Gamble, Kayali and senior captain Gabriella Kelly will be likely candidates in these events on Saturday. Sophomore Melissa Chapman, freshman Kira Garry, junior Elizabeth Marvin and senior Lindsey Raymond have recently been strong in distance races such as the 3,000-meter run.

Additionally, the teams have been well-matched in the sprinting events (100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash), with athletes on both sides within tenths of seconds of each other throughout the season. Junior Adele Jackson-Gibson, Kelly, senior Alexa Monti, junior Allison Rue and senior Emily Shulan have competed well in the sprints for Yale in 2012.

Hurdlers sophomore Amanda Snajder and freshman Emily Cable, pole vaulters sophomore Emily Urciuoli and Catherine Shih, jumpers sophomore Teresa Parent and Elle Brunsdale and throwers junior Antonia Renker and freshman Korbin Richards will also try to best Harvard competitors in their respective events.

Field events will begin with the hammer throw at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday while the 4x100-meter relay will kick off the track events at 1:30 p.m. The meet schedule is available here. Results will be posted on www.yalebulldogs.com at the end of the meet.
