Bulldogs to Conclude Relays on Friday
PHILADELPHIA – The Yale women's track and field team participated in the historic Penn Relays on Friday, turning in three top-10 finishes across five events. Sophomore Emily Urciuoli started off the day for the Bulldogs, competing in the college women's pole vault championship. She finished in a three-way tie for 16th at a height of 3.5m (11'5.75"), along with Bianca Reo of Princeton and Jillian Hart of host Penn. The field was 23 athletes deep.
Next, the Bulldogs took part in the 4x100-meter relay heats. The team of junior Adele Jackson-Gibson, freshman Emily Cable, senior Emily Shulan and senior Alexa Monti placed 48th out of 82 teams in 48.48. Monti and Cable combined with juniors Allison Rue and Jenna Poggi in the Heptagonal heat of the 4x400-meter relay. The Bulldogs finished fifth of their Ivy competitors in 3:51.44, a low for the team this season. Cable, the team's anchor, was able to edge Uju Ofoche of Columbia by 0.54 seconds to claim fifth-place.
In the individual races, freshman Kira Garry finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a team-low 10:36.69, good for sixth of 23 racers. Her previous attempt at the race earlier this season was 10:56.64. Sophomore Melissa Chapman placed fifth in the 3,000-meter run in 9:29.05, a personal record by over seven seconds.
Yale will also host the Springtime Invitational on Sunday.
