"Selfless" Junior Does It All for Bulldogs

NEW HAVEN – Junior Allison Rue was chosen by her teammates for the office of captain of the Yale women's track and field team for the 2012-2013 season. Rue is among the Bulldogs' most versatile athletes, competing at every distance from the 200-meter dash to the 800-meter run, though she has tended to specialize in the 400-meter dash this year.

Rue expressed sincere appreciation for the opportunity granted her by her teammates and shared her inspiration by their accomplishments.

"Yale women's track and field is made up of such incredible, talented and dedicated women," she said. "It is a privilege to simply be on a team with them, let alone to help lead them! I am truly amazed at the chance these women have given me to represent them and help them get where they want to go."

Rue has set personal records this year in both the 400-meter dash (56.13) and 800-meter run (2:11.43). She has also been an invaluable contributor on the Bulldogs' 4x400-meter relay team.

Even more than her athletic prowess, Mark T. Young '68 Director of Cross Country and Track and Field David Shoehalter emphasized Rue's character and leadership ability.

"Last night at our team banquet, Allie was described as 'selfless,'" said Shoehalter. "She brings that quality, along with a dogged desire for success, to practice every day. I'm excited that she'll be leading our women next year."

In outlining her goals for the season to come, Rue concentrated on the team continuing to work hard and set high standards for itself.

"The focus and hard work that I have seen on the team over the past year makes me confident that we can continue to grow stronger and more competitive as a team," she said. "I know the whole women's team would like to move up substantially in the rankings at Heps, and I believe next year we can do that."

Rue is a psychology major in Berkeley College, and hails from Silverdale, Wash.
