Three Bulldogs Earn All-East Distinction
Kayali, Marvin and Raymond Recognized for Scoring at ECACs
PRINCETON, N.J. – Three Yale middle distance runners were awarded All-East accolades for their standout performances at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (ECAC) Championships this weekend at Princeton. Juniors Nihal Kayali and Elizabeth Marvin and senior Lindsey Raymond scored a total of nine points for the Bulldogs, leading Yale to a 31st-place finish.
Kayali earned three points for her sixth-place finish in the 1500-meter run. Her time of 4:23.65 was a season-best. It was not the first time Kayali has been honored for either her athletic or academic prowess – she was also All-East in the 1500-meter run as a sophomore and has been named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic First Team and the Academic All-Ivy team in cross country. Her personal record in the 1500-meter run (4:21.98) is the second-fastest in school history, and she was recently elected to be captain of the cross country team for next season.
Marvin added four more points to the Bulldogs' tally with her fifth-place effort in the 3000-meter run in a season-best time of 9:39.80. Marvin earned the All-East distinction last year as well in the 5000-meter run, and also made the USTFCCCA All-Academic First Team. She currently holds the ninth-best 3000-meter (9:36.60) and tenth-best 5000-meter (16:37.04) times on Yale record.
Finally, Raymond picked up another two points by running another season best in the 3000-meter run (9:49.47) to take seventh. Raymond, a former member of Yale's varsity soccer team, joined the track team in her senior year and has had a remarkable season. In addition to making All-East, she was fourth at Heps in the 10,000-meter run (35:17.12), running the fourth-fastest time in Yale history at that distance.
Kayali (1500-meter run), Marvin (5000- and 10,000-meter runs) and Raymond (10,000-meter run) have all qualified for the NCAA East Regional, which will take them to Florida in two weeks for a chance to reach Nationals.
