Chapman Competes at NCAA Regionals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The final race of the Bulldogs' track and field season occurred on Saturday night, when sophomore Melissa Chapman competed in  the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA East Regional at the University of North Florida. Chapman finished in 22nd place of 44 runners. Her time of 16:43.86 was good for 11th place in her heat. Dartmouth's Abbey D'Agostino, an All-American in the event at the 2011 NCAA Championships, won the heat in 16:15.35. D'Agostino has run the second-fastest time in the country this season.

The overall winning time in the event was 15:53.62, clocked by Emily Sisson of Providence, the only athlete to run sub-16 minutes on Saturday. Sisson has run the eighth-fastest 5,000-meter run time in 2012. Other heavy hitters in the race include Sheila Reid, the 2011 individual NCAA cross country champion, and Bogdana Mimic, both of Villanova.
