Snajder Competes in First Four Heptathlon Events

NEW HAVEN, Conn.-This Friday marked the start of the ECAC Championships for Yale women's track and field. Three long distance events, the discus throw, and four of the heptathlon's seven events were competed, all of which were final rather than preliminary rounds.

In the discus throw, freshman Karleh Wilson heaved a distance of 40.68m (133-05). She is the only Bulldog competing in a throwing event at the meet.

Sophomore Kira Garry, competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, placed 5th on Friday. Last year as a freshman, Garry claimed the Yale record in the event. Her finish of 10:27.83 won the team 4 points.

Senior Nihal Kayali also contributed to her team's score with her performance in the 5,000-meter run. She finished 7th with a time of 16:35.43. A second senior forerunner, Elizabeth Marvin, finished in 9th place at 16:40.77. Junior Millie Chapman was just seconds behind her teammates, finishing in eleventh place with a time of 16:46.67.

Sophomore Anna Demaree finished eleventh in the 10,000-meter run, the only Bulldog to participate in the extensive race. Her final time was 36:55.13.

Finally, junior Amanda Snajder competed in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200-meter dash—the first four events of the seven that make up the heptathlon. Her score from these events will be added to those from the events she will compete in on Saturday—the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run. She placed 10th in the 100-meter hurdles, 4th in the high jump, 9th in the shot put, and sixteenth in the 200-meter dash. Her time of 15.22 in the 100-meter hurdles breaks her previous best time, run in an open event. Her final score will be reported on Saturday.

Live results will be available here when the meet continues tomorrow.
