Sophomore Surpasses Half of the Field

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—This past Thursday, sophomore Emily Stark of the women's track and field team represented Yale at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round. The meet was hosted by North Florida University in Jacksonville, Fla.

Stark braved the Florida heat to compete in the 10,000-meter run late on Thursday night. She far surpassed the No. 46 ranking she carried going into the meet, placing 24th out of the 48 qualifying athletes. As the race included the top-48 athletes in the event from the East region, Stark's finishing time of 35:24.68 marks an impressive feat.

The meet will continue on Friday, when junior Kira Garry competes in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Garry's event will take place at 9:30 p.m. at night. Live results are available here, while a complete schedule is available here.
