NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's track and field team hosted the Mark Young Invitational this afternoon, the team's first of four home meets this season. Bringing together both local competition and Ivy League rivals, the meet was held at the Dewitt Cuyler Athletic Complex. Though few of the Yale women competed this afternoon, those that did performed well, yielding some personal best performances.

Many of the team's athletes competed in the 1,500-meter run, led by junior Melissa Fairchild's overall second-place performance. She crossed the line with a time of 4:48.31 in what was her first race since the cross country season. Sophomore Emily Kaplan also had a strong race this afternoon, finishing with a new personal best of 4:56.32. Meanwhile, freshman Rachel Suss made her debut in the event, posting a time of 4:59.60 -- 19th out of all 60 participants this afternoon.

On the field, senior Lillian Foote and freshman Olivia Mooney represented the team in the high jump, both posting heights of 1.55m (5-01). The pair tied for sixth place overall. Natasha Feshbach took second in the long jump with a leap of 5.41m (17-09). The freshman was just a half an inch from taking home first this afternoon. Senior Rachel Wofford finished sixth with a jump of 5.21m (17-01.25).

Senior captain Kate Simon improved upon her performance at last week's competition, achieving a mark of 45.57m (149-06) to take sixth place overall in the hammer throw. Meanwhile sophomore Evelyn Roberts also earned a season best in this same event with a throw of 47.00m (154-02) to take fifth overall.

Next week the Bulldogs will split up between competing at the Sam Howell Distance Night and competing at the bi-annual Yale-Harvard vs. Oxford/Cambridge meet. More details of both meets will be posted in the coming week.
