    After an exceptional rookie season with the Yale women's track and field program, outstanding middle-distance runner Jocelyn Chau has been selected as one of just 47 athletes to represent Canada at the 2019 Pan American U20 Championships.
  • 2019 Marks 125th Anniversary of HYOC Trip

    This year marks the 125th anniversary of the meeting between the track and field programs of Harvard, Yale, Oxford and Cambridge. Older than the modern day olympics, this competition occurs every two years and features a dual meet where a hybrid Harvard Yale team takes on a combined Oxford and Cambridge squad.

    After an impressive finish in Thursday’s semifinal of the 1500 meters, Jocelyn Chau competed in Saturday’s quarterfinals in an effort to qualify for the first round of NCAA nationals.

    During day two of the NCAA east regional, the Yale women’s track and field team had athletes competing in the quarterfinals of both the 800 meters and the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Against the top athletes in the east region, both Samantha Friborg and Kayley DeLay held their own in hot and humid conditions.

  • Bulldogs Off to Jacksonville

    Concluding the regular season each ranked in the top 48 for their respective events, a group of four runners on the Yale women’s track and field team is officially set to compete in the East Preliminary Round of NCAA Track and Field Championships this week. While this marks the second trip to regionals for senior veteran Andrea Masterson, this is the first time qualifying for Jocelyn Chau, Kayley DeLay and Samantha Friborg.
  • Yale Honors Six with Awards at Senior Student-Athlete Reception

    Six seniors were honored by the Yale Athletics Department with awards at the annual senior student-athlete reception Saturday afternoon at the Lanman Center in Payne Whitney Gymnasium. Trey Phills (Charlotte, N.C.) of the men’s basketball team and Kate Zendell (Suffern, N.Y.) of the women’s cross country and track and field teams were the recipients of the Ford Student-Athlete Community Outreach Award. Carrie Heilbrun (Fairfax Station, Va.) of the women’s swimming and diving team and Simon Whiteman (Trumbull, Conn.) of the baseball team were the recipients of the Kiphuth Student-Athlete Distinction Award. Shelby Kennedy (Vail, Ariz.) of the softball team and James Kochanski (Colorado Springs, Colo.) of the men’s soccer team were the recipients of the Meyer Humanitarian Award.

    With the release of the declarations for the 2019 NCAA Track and Field Championship East Preliminaries, four members of the Yale women’s track and field team secured their spots among the top 48 competitors in their respective events in the East region.
  • Masterson and Vasen Honored at Annual Track and Field Banquet

    Last Wednesday the Yale women’s track and field team gathered at the Carol Roberts Field House for its annual end-of-the-season banquet. In addition to the traditional James Stack and Stroube Family Awards, presented to Emma Vasen and Andrea Masterson respectively, new annual awards were introduced this year to recognize and honor a wider range of the athletes’ accomplishments on both the track and field.

    This Saturday and Sunday the Yale women’s track and field team will compete against all of its Ancient Eight opponents in the 2019 Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Championship at Princeton University’s Weaver Stadium. Although the outdoor season didn’t begin until late March, the Bulldogs have been preparing for this meet for many months, using indoor track and in some cases cross country to build fitness and momentum that will serve them well this weekend. Boasting record-breaking performances and some of the top times in the Ivy League, the team is primed for individual success this weekend in New Jersey.

A select group of sprinters accompanied by thrower Emma Vasen and pole vaulter Erin Gerardo traveled to the Auburn Invitational in Auburn, Alabama, while distance runners Samantha Friborg and Andrea Masterson ran at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, VA and a remaining group of Bulldogs stayed in New Haven to compete in Yale’s own Mark T. Young Invitational.

There were 10 Bulldogs who thrived in their sport and in the classroom, as starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with 3.0 or better cumulative grade point averages honored.
