Molly Lederman's pole vault height of 12 feet, 9.5 inches earned her third place in the Championship heat at the 2004 Penn Relays. A number of Elis had strong finishes Thursday, with Yale's distance medley relay team earning first in their heat and Cara Kiernan, Anne Martin, and Joslyn Woodard also recording top three finishes.
The distance medley relay team of Rebecca Hunter, Vanessa Mazandi, Rebecca Dickens, and Ashley Campbell won their division of the event with a time of 11:43.50, edging out Kent State's team by just over a tenth of a second.
Yale's distance runners had successful races on the day. In the 5,000 meter run, rookie Cara Kiernan finished second to Duke's Paige Miller with a time of 16:31.37. Anne Martin's time of 10:45.83 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase gave her a third place finish as she managed to edge out Columbia's Laura Meyers by just eight hundredths of a second.
Joslyn Woodard earned third in the Eastern Long Jump field event, getting to a distance of 19 feet, 1.25 inches. In the Eastern High Jump, captain Lisa Wygant finished 11th with a height of 5 feet, 4.5 inches.
The Elis will continue to compete in the Penn Relays through Saturday.
