NEW HAVEN, Conn. - On Friday afternoon the ECAC Championships opened with the first four events of the heptathlon and three distance events: the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the 5,000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run. Senior Bevin Peters, who ran the steeplechase, was the only Yale competitor for the afternoon.
Peters finished 22nd in the event in a time of 11:04.29. Her personal best is 10:50.48, which she achieved with her win at the Harvard-Yale vs. Oxford-Cambridge meet in April. That time is only .23 seconds above the NCAA regional qualifying standard, a mark Peters was hoping to reach before the season's end. This was the last race for Peters, who has been a consistently strong distance runner and steeplechaser all four of her years at Yale.
On Saturday Bulldogs will compete in the trials for the 400-meter dash, the 800-meter run and the 400-meter hurdles, as well as in all three relays (4x100 meter, 4x400 meter, 4x800 meter). Finals for all of these events will be held Sunday.
