PRINCETON, N.J. - The Yale women's track and field team competed Friday afternoon at the first day of the three-day ECAC championships. The day featured only three events: the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the 5,000-meter run and the first four events (the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash) of the heptathlon.
The Bulldogs had only one competitor, team captain Elizabeth Calle, who competed in her specialty, the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Despite cold, rainy conditions, the senior finished 15th in a time of 11:04.07; the race was won by sophomore Stephanie Garcia of Virginia, who ran 10:19.74.
Calle has already run well below the NCAA regional qualifying standard in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:50.25) and thus has already guaranteed herself a chance to compete at Florida State, the site for the NCAA east region championships this year, at the end of the month (May 30 and 31).
