NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Senior Alexis Crusey
posted 11 kills and 11 digs, her second double-double of the
season, as the Yale volleyball team notched its fifth straight win
with a sweep of visiting Quinnipiac on Saturday morning at the John
J. Lee Amphitheater in New Haven. Sophomore Katie Cordell posted a
team-best and personal career high of 14 digs in the contest, while
freshman setter Kerry Clavadetscher doled out 18 assists in just
two sets of work. The Bulldogs won by set scores of 25-19, 25-18
and 25-16.
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 9-1 on the season and remain
perfect at home with a 4-0 mark. Dating back to 2008, Yale has now
won seven straight matches in the Elm City. The Bobcats from
Quinnipiac fall to 1-12 in defeat.
In addition to Crusey’s team-best 11 kills, senior Lydia
Mailander added nine finishers and freshman Haley Wessels tallied
seven kills for the second consecutive match. Senior Laurel Johnson
had three kills, Cordell and Clavadetscher each notched a pair, and
the offense was rounded by one kill apiece from sophomore Laurel
Casey and junior Kate Parker. Parker also distributed 12 assists in
one set of action.
As a team, the Bulldogs hit .276 (42-10-116) with four service aces
and six blocks. The Bobcats swung at a .116 (36-21-129) rate with
three aces and one block. Quinnipiac was led by a trio of match
bests: 12 kills from Kelby Carey, 25 assists from Kayla Lawler and
18 digs from libero Logan Riker.
The Bulldogs are back in action this evening, as they host
Binghamton in the final match of the Yale Classic. First serve is
slated for 7 p.m.
